Makers Day at ATS

Hosting Organization: Alexandria Township School

County: Hunterdon

On March 11, 2026, Alexandria Township School hosted a vibrant Makers Day that brought together students from Pre-K through 8th grade for an afternoon of hands-on discovery and creativity. Older students partnered with younger buddies as they embarked on their first maker adventure, exploring what it truly means to be a “maker” through a wide range of interactive experiences.

Supported by local businesses, farms, and artists, students engaged with demonstrations from a chocolatier, farrier, woodworker, and the New Jersey State Police K9 and Mounted Unit. They also had the unique opportunity to explore construction vehicles used to build playgrounds and sit inside customized emergency vehicles. Every student left with something they created themselves—ranging from decorated cookies and kaleidoscopes to sublimated bookmarks, wooden sailboats, and personalized items like button pins, pencil pouches, and glitter pens. Eighth-grade students also designed custom drawstring bags using a heat press in preparation for their upcoming trip to Washington, D.C.

The event was made possible through the support of dedicated parent volunteers and community partners, including Mr. Pops Chocolate Shop, the Hunterdon County Library, Chocolate in the Oven, Elite Vehicle Solutions, ArtsQuest, the New Jersey State Police, River Threads, Whirl Construction, McBride Woodworks, and the Alexandria Township Education Foundation.
