In celebration of NJ STEM Month, Girl Scouts from Cherry Hill, Haddonfield, and Merchantville gathered for an exciting hands-on STEM event designed specifically for Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador scouts. Held on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at the Girl Scouts Cherry Hill Service Center, the evening offered a unique opportunity to dive into the world of forensic science.
Led by Detective Sean Clancy of the National CSI organization, the event introduced Girl Scouts to real-world forensic investigation techniques. Scouts explored careers in forensics, learned fingerprinting methods, and even recorded and analyzed their own fingerprints. They practiced observation techniques used in crime scene investigations and witness interviews, then wrapped up the session with a chromatography activity to analyze ink from various markers.
As a result of their participation, attendees earned the STEM Career Exploration badge for all three levels, as well as the Cadette Special Agent badge.
Thanks to generous funding from the New Jersey STEM Pathways Network, the cost of the event was just $3 per scout, with materials, a snack, and one badge included. This affordable and engaging evening inspired curiosity, introduced new career paths, and reinforced the Girl Scouts’ commitment to empowering girls through STEM.
