On Thursday, March 27, the STEM Division at UCNJ Union College of Union County, New Jersey hosted a spectacular evening under the stars as part of the statewide NJ STEM Month celebration. The event, titled “Pizza and Planets,” brought together community members of all ages for a night of stargazing, hands-on learning, and of course—pizza!

Guests gathered at the Observatory on the Cranford Campus, where the college’s expert staff guided attendees through a tour of the night sky. Using high-powered telescopes, participants observed planets, stars, and other celestial objects, gaining a deeper appreciation for the wonders of the universe. Many attendees expressed awe at seeing distant worlds and galaxies come into focus right before their eyes.

No stargazing session is complete without a good meal, and this one did not disappoint. The evening included a pizza party that kept guests energized and ready to explore. Laughter, conversation, and the aroma of fresh slices filled the air as community members shared their excitement for science and space.

“Pizza and Planets” was a shining example of the college’s commitment to making STEM education fun, accessible, and engaging. By participating in this NJ STEM Month event, attendees not only enjoyed a night of discovery but also helped spotlight the importance of science and technology in everyday life.

The event welcomed families, students, educators, and space enthusiasts from across the area. It fostered meaningful connections, sparked curiosity, and reminded everyone that learning can happen anywhere—even under a blanket of stars.

“Pizza and Planets” was more than just an evening event—it was an inspiring celebration of science, community, and curiosity. UCNJ looks forward to continuing to provide engaging STEM opportunities that bring people together and ignite a passion for discovery.
