March was a month of innovation, exploration, and hands-on learning at Bowser Elementary School, where students celebrated National STEM Month through a variety of engaging activities that brought Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math to life.
Each week focused on a different area of STEM, giving students meaningful opportunities to think critically, solve problems, and collaborate with their peers.
In science, students explored the properties of non-Newtonian fluids by creating and experimenting with Oobleck, sparking curiosity through messy and memorable discovery. In technology, they learned the basics of computer language by reading and writing binary code.
Engineering week challenged students to tap into their creativity and design skills, using popsicle sticks to construct bridges, catapults, and other inventive structures. In math, students got hands-on in the kitchen, applying their understanding of fractions, whole numbers, measurement, and unit conversions to cook pancakes. They also explored mathematical thinking and sequencing through patterned bracelet making, blending art and math in a fun and accessible way.
All of these dynamic STEM experiences took place in Bowser Elementary’s beloved Science Lab, affectionately known as the Discovery Zone. Out of the school’s 650 students, approximately 500 students from PreK through 5th grade, including those in special education programs, took part in the month’s engaging activities.
The impact of STEM Month was evident in the enthusiasm, curiosity, and collaboration displayed by students. From the excitement in their eyes to the thoughtful questions they asked, it was clear that students were not just learning STEM concepts—they were living them.
National STEM Month at Bowser was a resounding success, and the school looks forward to continuing its mission of nurturing the next generation of scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and technology innovators.
