NJ Makers Day

Hosting organization: Warren County Library

County: Warren

Total Attendees: 635

On March 25th, 2023 Warren County Library welcomed over 635 Makers across its four branches for its 8th annual Maker’s Day. In its first return to in-person activities since 2019, WCL was excited to offer hands-on science, technology, engineering, math, and other creative learning projects suitable for the whole family. In total, Makers of all ages had the opportunity to explore over twenty-five activities across our branches for a full day of entertainment, education, and community. Makers experienced their very own 3D vision challenge by creating 3D glasses and exploring the concepts behind creating 3D drawings. Participants also learned the arts of origami and making paper flowers or tried out traditional weaving on real looms. For those willing to get messy, Makers experimented with alcohol inks, food dye, and shaving cream to create stunning vibrant marbled effects on artwork to take home. Some took the chance to “dig” into the past by making salt dough dinosaur fossils. And others tested their aim (and their taste buds!) with DIY marshmallow catapults and more marshmallow constructions. Meanwhile, other Makers ventured into the world of electricity and electronics with simple circuit making or made friends with “Spot the Robotic Dog.” For those wanting a more visual experience, visitors had the opportunity to see free demonstrations, including a light and shadow show, a super science program about physics, gardening and quilting demonstrations, and more. Even for those on the go, Makers could take home sensory bags, kindness rocks to design, and other take and make kits. No matter their age or interest, it was an entertaining and enlightening day for all. WCL is grateful to the support of the New Jersey STEM Pathways Network and our dedicated staff and volunteers who made Maker’s Day 2023 possible!
