Sound Frequencies for Relaxation and Focus

Hosting Organization: Delran STEM / Delran Township Public Schools

County: Burlington

On March 23, faculty and staff from Delran Schools gathered to learn about the science behind different frequencies of sound that can help support relaxation and focus. Abigail Kramer, a music educator and sound healing facilitator presented about the science of sound, brain waves and frequencies, and the body’s response to sound.  Sound healing is grounded in neuroscience, physics, and psychoacoustics – not mysticism. The research base is growing rapidly. Sound activates the vagus nerve, shifting the body from sympathetic to parasympathetic states. Teachers learned about classroom applications and sound strategies for classroom outcomes, and left with a portable speaker to implement their new learning in their classrooms. The session concluded with a live sound bath demonstration. Participants appreciated the moment of peace, and learned how sound can help them maintain that sense of peace, balance, and focus in their classrooms and everyday lives. One participant shared, “I am so glad I attended the ‘Sound Frequencies’ event yesterday. It was just what I needed!! When I arrived, I was feeling quite tired and run-down, but when I finished the ending exercise, I felt very refreshed. It is amazing how just a few minutes of sound therapy can recharge the batteries! I appreciate being able to participate in these types of programs – thank you for all you do to bring them to the staff at Delran.”
