The Department of Integrative STEM Education in the School of Engineering at The College of New Jersey invites applications for a visiting professor starting August 2021. The department leads three design-based programs that prepare the next generation of educational leaders with expertise in both pedagogy and STEM content knowledge, as well as the capabilities necessary to grow our STEM-literate citizenry. The Technology & Engineering Education major is a secondary technology education K-12 program with an engineering emphasis, as represented by content, methods, and course requirements. The integrative STEM dual major produces a large number of integrative STEM capable K-6 and middle school teachers. The department is also expanding a Master of Education program with possible certificates in integrative STEM Methods, Design Thinking, and Environmental Sustainability Education. The department is searching for a visiting professor for a one-year term to lead courses in K-12 Integrative STEM Education for the undergraduate and the Masters of Education program. Our courses keep the K-12 educator at the forefront. These include Integrative STEM for Young Learners, Integrative STEM Pedagogy & Curriculum, Engineering Math for Educators, Engineering Design, Structures & Mechanics, Mechanical Systems, Architectural Design, Analog Electronics, Control & Robotics, and Digital Electronics. Other courses are designed broadly to meet liberal learning goals including Creative Design, and Society, Ethics & Technology.
Individuals interested in the one year visiting instructor/professor line should hold an earned doctorate in an appropriate field relevant to department courses, but individuals with a master degree and specialized experience will be considered and are encouraged to apply. This includes Engineering Education, STEM Education, or a closely related field. The successful candidate must present evidence of capabilities in all of the following areas: K–12 STEM education with an emphasis on technology and engineering education (direct experiences with K–12 students are preferred), undergraduate teaching, curriculum and laboratory development, and an understanding of integrative STEM methods. Experience with (or interest in) remote teaching is also desired.
