Reporting to the director of the Center for Mathematics, Science & Computer Education (CMSCE), this position: Will develop curriculum for two 1.5-credit courses in Computer Science (CS)/Computational Thinking (CT), and app/game development using Apple computers and iPads and SWIFT programming language. The courses will be taken by high school teachers who need to prepare a new course in CS/CT as mandated by New Jersey. The courses will rely heavily on the Apple CS curriculum, but will add instruction in pedagogy (especially project-based), CT, app and game design, and special topics such as webpage development, data security, ethics in CS, and global impacts of CS. Pedagogical approach must emphasize cultural competency and responsiveness. Will develop Learning Management System (LMS) tools for course activities, mainly in Canvas. Provides planning and production of curriculum materials, and facilitation of online course development. Researches, develops and presents curricular materials for online formats, including an online environment for a potential “lab” or “office hours.” Provides development of syllabi and obtains materials necessary for instruction of the courses.
A bachelor’s degree in a field related to CS, CT, app/game development or related areas.
Master’s degree or Doctorate degree preferred.
Strong organizational and time management skills are preferred.
At least two years proven ability in creating CS and/or CT curricula, and/or training teachers is preferred.
NJ K-12 Teacher Certification is preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must have knowledge of Apple programming language and common Apple software, MS Office Suite, and Adobe.
Must be familiar with federal, state, local and university laws and regulations, especially those that apply to young children grades K-12.
Incumbent will use desktop computer, a laptop computer, iPad, smartphone, printer, photocopier, and calculator in the course of his/her daily responsibilities. Apple devices can be provided as needed.
