NJ Soap Box Derby

Become a Race Car Driver. Cars are gravity powered and provide a real STEM experience and learning in a fun hands on experience.
We have cars available for use and the event is open to kids ages 7-20. Pre-registration is required and cars will need about an hour of work prior to race day. Cars are located in Hopewell Township, NJ and our volunteers can meet you to get a car and do the alignment work.
Race Day is June 24th. Car set-up has to be done by Wednesday, June 21st. Racers must be available on June 22nd or 23rd for about an hour (drop in when available) for inspection and weigh in. We hold the cars from that time until race day. Racers come back Saturday June 24th for the race. Kids get a trial run and this is a double elimination race.

Fee is for racer only – event is free to spectators.

The Soap Box Derby is a non-profit youth education and leadership development organization whose mission is to build knowledge and character, and to create meaningful experiences through collaboration, fair and honest racing competitions, STEM curriculum, and other community-focused activities.

NJ Soap Box Derby, Inc. has established their race in Hopewell Township after 12 years of racing in New Brunswick. Our goal is to continue to be an extension of the All American Soap Box Derby on a local level, engaging families and communities around us. We are dedicated to:

We believe giving kids hands on examples and experiences with STEM will create habits of curiosity, problem solving, and ingenuity. Our racers and their families will benefit from the teamwork and effort it takes to be racers. While this sport has individual drivers for each car, the drivers rely on a parent or mentor to be their car handler and coach; making this a truly unique experience.
