New Jersey Makers Day
March 23, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pmFree
Come make with us! March 23rd from 10 a.m. – 4p.m. the Hunterdon County Library will join over 300 libraries, museums and schools throughout New Jersey to participate in the 5th New Jersey Makers Day. The North County and South County Branches are excited to host talented community artists, clubs, crafters, inventors, and small businesses who are gathering to bring an amazing day of making to the community. Makers Day emphasizes creative ways of learning technology skills. Hands-on projects that mix crafting and electronics are a fun introduction for children and can spark an interest that leads to more advanced technology skills. From basket weaving to coding a microprocessor, the range of activities is wide enough that everyone can find something that appeals to them. Here is what you have to look forward to at the North County Branch Makers Day:
Like Legos? Join Bricks 4 Kidz, the brick experts. They will teach motorized model building in classes throughout the day.
Ever heard of a micro:bit? It’s an amazing education microprocessor being used at schools and libraries all over the world to teach coding. We have them and will launch lending them out (like a book!) on Makers Day.
Pound a bit of clay and make a leaf magnet with Rimi Studios.
Come meet the library’s new Prusa 3D printer. We are building it an enclosure, with 3D printed parts, so it can be out in public.
Explore simple machines with Builder Bob a local craftsman.
Is the FORCE strong with you? Show us by making a lightsaber using a paper circuit with library staff.
Take an introductory sewing lesson with Mrs. JoAnne Gardner. This is her 5th New Jersey Makers Day.
Watch a wheel throwing demonstration with Kissimmee River Pottery.
Basket weave with Hunterdon County Parks and Recreation.
Mesmerized by marble runs? Come see a big one the Robostorm robotics club has put together.
Design your remote controlled robot to skewer the competition in the Robostorm robotics skewer balloon bot battle.
Make a beaded memory bracelet with the Delaware Valley Bead Society, to remember your amazing Makers Day.
Are you a tactile person? Get gooey, concoct some slime with Clinton’s very own Leopard Print Slime Company.
Make a play doh model and light it up with an LED. Girl Scout troop 81127 will help teach beginning circuitry with Squishy Circuits for the 2nd year.
Into gaming? Game-U teaches coding for gaming, come see what you could make instead of just using other people’s games.
Not everything is technology on Makers Day. Come relax and learn fabric weaving or origami.
