Mayan Archeoastronomy: Observers of the Universe
March 17, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm
Join us at the Edelman Planetarium at Rowan University as we take a tour of 6 Mayan temples. In a feast of colors and sounds, Mayan Archaeoastronomy: Observers of the Universe journeys into the Mayan temples of San Gervasio, Chichen Itzá, Uxmal, Edzná, Palenque and Bonampak. Spectators dive into a Mayan world of knowledge about the importance of the orientations of its temples in relation to the movement of some stars like the Sun, the Moon and Venus.
Residents of the South Jersey region are invited to join the Rowan University community to reach for the stars in the Edelman Planetarium. Here, visitors can enjoy a wide variety of shows and special events designed to educate, entertain and inspire. Our mission is to advance the understanding of the universe and serve as a public resource for astronomical information. Programs include elements of other natural sciences, education, communications and the fine and performing arts. Come join us as we explore the cosmos! The theater houses a 40-foot diameter dome screen and a digital projection system.
