Edelman Planetarium at Rowan University – Observatory Open House
March 22, 2018 @ 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm
Observe the evening sky through telescopes during our Observatory Open House nights. Astronomy faculty and club members are on-hand to operate the telescopes and guide visitors as they view objects in the night sky. Our Open Houses are free and open to everyone! Observatory Open Houses are offered once a month during each semester. They begin in the planetarium with a brief virtual preview of the night sky. Visitors are then escorted to the 4th floor observatory, where they will participate in observations of the night sky. Attendees observe through the 16″ research telescope in the observing dome and through smaller telescopes on the observing deck, so be sure to dress for the weather! Weather calls are posted by 2:00 pm.
Residents of the South Jersey region are invited to join the Rowan University community to reach for the stars in the Edelman Planetarium. Here, visitors can enjoy a wide variety of shows and special events designed to educate, entertain and inspire. Our mission is to advance the understanding of the universe and serve as a public resource for astronomical information. Programs include elements of other natural sciences, education, communications and the fine and performing arts. Come join us as we explore the cosmos! The theater houses a 40-foot diameter dome screen and a digital projection system. The rooftop observatory houses a 16˝ telescope for astronomy research.
