1st Annual Math Madness “Pi-Day” 24 Game Competition (Grades 5-12)
March 14 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pmfree
Students, parents, teachers (non-math background), administrators, and the immediate community will come together during a safe and competitive event that will allow students to see other people release their fears of mathematics by playing the game of 24. Additionally, the half-time event will allow spectators and contestants to engage in other logic games (chess, solving Rubrix cubes, mastering the Tower of Hanoi, Manala, Achi, Math Trivia-pie in your face, and Twister Math), Make-and-Take Stations (mixing cosmetics and skin butters), and workshops (Cryptography) to connect mathematics to the real-world. A DJ and food will make the event lively and well-attended. Students will use this competition to face their fears and have a positive association with mathematics.
Similarly, to March Madness, the 4 groups are Students (Grades 5-8), Students (Grades 9-12), Administrators/Teachers, and Parents/Community. One player from each group will make it to the finals and will receive certificates for their achievements. There will be one district champion, a 2nd place winner, and a third-place winner. Each winner will receive a trophy/medal. All other contestants will receive certificates for participation.
