2026 NJ STEM Month

Build Big Dreams Youth STEM Conference

Hosting Organization: HSMC STEM Ecosystem & The Flemington-Raritan Regional School District

County: Hunterdon

As part of New Jersey STEM Month, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, in partnership with Princeton University, hosted the Build Big Dreams Youth STEM Conference on March 11, 2026. The event brought together students from across the region for a day of hands-on learning, exploration, and exposure to the wide range of opportunities within science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

With support from a mini-grant provided by the New Jersey STEM Pathways Network, the HSMC STEM Ecosystem was able to fund transportation for 20 students in grades 8 through 11, ensuring equitable access to this high-impact experience. By removing transportation barriers, more students were able to participate in a day focused on discovery, inspiration, and future career exploration.

Throughout the conference, students engaged in interactive activities, observed live science demonstrations, and participated in small group sessions led by scientists, engineers, and researchers. They also had the opportunity to connect with professionals from around the world, gaining valuable insight into real-world STEM applications and diverse career pathways.

The experience reinforced a strong commitment to expanding access to meaningful STEM opportunities and supporting the next generation of innovators. Students left the conference with new knowledge, inspiration, and a deeper understanding of the possibilities within STEM—demonstrating how impactful hands-on, real-world learning can be in shaping future aspirations.
