Girl Scouts has made a STEM pledge to add 2.5 million girls to the STEM pipeline by 2025, and Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey is committed to this mission! At STEMfest Jr., more than 60 Girl Scouts in fifth and sixth grade discovered the world of engineering through interactive activities at Hackensack High School. Female engineering students from Rutgers University guided the girls through the engineering design process focusing on the field’s various disciplines: chemical, mechanical, biomedical, and civil engineering. Not only did the girls earn their engineering badge, but they were also presented with diverse female role models pursuing STEM.
